Welcome

I am Mayank Kumar, and welcome to my homepage. I am passionate about signal processing  and its diverse applications. Further, my interest lies in exploring hardware software co-design for implementing real time systems with heavy signal processing requirements using different mix of processing elements (FPGA, GPP, DSP, and custom cores).   Currently, I am working on developing a frequency agile SDR platform for rural broadband connectivity with Center for Applied Research in Electronics (CARE) IIT Delhi. I also love to play with EEG signals and try to develop understanding about the most marvelous creation of nature – human brains.

I completed my bachelors from IIT Delhi in Electrical Engineering in 2010 and went on to have my first startup. where i try to bring my ideas to the people.

I also consult Stanford India Biodesign on development of a low cost hearing screening device for newborns. I take care of signal acquisition and detection of Auditory Brainstem Response which are brain response to sound stimulus and could be recorded using scalp electrodes. These are very low voltage signals (around 10-100 nV), and, let me tell you something -> 1 electron charge = 1.6 X 10^(-19) C which if goes through a capacitor of 1pF (10^-12) gives rise to voltage of 160 nV, well we didn’t realize how small the signals were till we end up detecting it! After many iterations, we demonstrated our first working prototype in 5th India Medtech summit 2011.

I am from a small town Giridih in Jharkhand (India) and I love the bucolic serene life there. The only thing that hinders me to be there is freely flowing Internet, and that give me the constant motivation to work for rural broadband. I am constantly exploring the technical, regulatory, financial and economic challenges that hinders penetration of Internet to countryside. You can go through my latest finding in the form of a whitepaper here.

I like to have discussion with people having diverse perspective on spirituality and meaning of life, and my favorite references are Bhagvad Gita, Saint Kabir’s work and Swami Vivekananda’s work. I like to share my perspective on things around me and I maintain a blog.
